Just finished installing a new 5.7 engine in my 4winns. Almost ready to fire it up. Turned the key to get everything moving and I noticed an oil leak coming from an open bolt hole right above the oil filter. I obviously left something off but can not remember if a sensor or something mounted there or if it was just a bolt to plug the hole. Can one of you give a guidance on this. Thanksimage.jpg

Some engines have an oil pressure switch to turn on the electric fuel pump after starting that goes there. I don't think that VP wires it that way but for sure that hole has to be plugged. The right size plug will work but you need to find out the size and type of threads (straight thread or NPT) I'm guessing NPT threads. Good thing you caught that, you would have lost oil pressure pretty quickly! If you can't find the correct pipe plug you could install the sender that Merc uses just to seal the hole....

Call the engine company !! Warranty ?

Look at the space between the 2 holes !!! there is a sMASHED IN area. Do not run the engine!!! Call the company about the crushed in metal area.

Something odd there, the upper hole seems threaded but the lower hole does not and what’s that odd looking gouge/casting flaw to the right of the lower hole?
