Hello, I have just installed a new engine in my regal cruiser, its a 5.0 gi v8 volvo penta petrol engine, I would like to know any precautions that I should undertake not to damage the motor in the initial 100 hours of use, eg: not passing a certain rpm level, or changing oil frequently etc etc any advise would be much appreciated and will probably allow me to spend more time on the water and less in this forum with future problems :):) lol

Cheers Ashley

Didn't the motor include break in procedures? Usually an oil change after the first initial run is mandatory, it gets out all the prelube that was put on cam and bearing surfaces along with machining debri (micrscopic stuff). It's usually suggested to vary the RPM's frequently and operate engine at different loads like power up and back off, never take it to max RPM and don't just cruise at steady RPM either. Thats about it, other than the given stuff like don't overheat it from lack of cooling, make sure ignition timing is correct. Most your damage comes in the first 1/2 of running, thats the most critical time.

Ayuh,...

Eliminator pretty much covered your question,...
I'll only add that a Break-in period is usually only 20hrs....
After that,....
Run it like ya Stole it......;)

Thanks for all the advice, I have followed it all so far with no problems, I have another question ?? Will the engine gain more horsepower as its slowly broken in over the first 20 hours or is it " fully powered " when new ?? thanks ashley
