I want to install a new hour meter in my engine compartment. What wire on the engine can it be connected to?

Re: New engine, new hour meter

hour meters are usually connected to the purple (ignition) wire

i find hour meters in the engine compartment just get in the way when working on the engine

most are installed in the dash or near a breaker/fuse panel

I installed my hour meter in the dash and hooked it to the ignition run wire so when the engine is running the hour meter is on.

There's two purple wires on the coil. Would that be fine?

it would probably work but i wouldn't want to daisy anything off the coil itself for fear of causing ignition/runnability issues

you are best off connecting it off one of the guages at the helm, see if you can mount it in a storage compartment or if you have an access panel to behind the dash perhaps mounted near there
