Hi guys,
I installed a new 350 Vortec with 4bbl edelbrock 1409 into my boat and took my time over wiring/plumbing and whatnot.
Got the engine started on the muffs tonight, the first thing i noticed was with the new waterpump both circulating and raw the muffs got sucked onto the outdrive good and proper... this concerned me a little which I will expand on in a minute.
The engine took what seemed like forever to start and at times we had to give the starter motor a break.. eventually she kicked and since then she will start on the button. I was happy it happened this way as it gave the oil pump plenty of time to prime the engine.
Now onto the running... immediately i noticed an unusual chuffing sound... I have no idea what it is but its definately there... like a steam train chuff chuff chuff chuff....
There are new manifolds and risers installed so I suspected perhaps it was something to do with this, can anyone shed any light on what this could be...
Anyway after around 5-10 minutes of idling time the dash alarm(not engine) sounded to say the temp was entering the red, I expect this is due to there being insufficient flow from the muffs so I shut her off with the niggling worry.... what was that chuffing noise.
