I have a 16ft open hull boat which I have had a Johnson 40hp (1991) for some time, happy with performance and speed. However I have to replace the engine and am looking at a Evinrude 35hp (1997) with 3 cylinders, do you think the reduction in HP will affect the top speed and performance very much?<br /><br />thanks in advance<br /><br />Tim
Your top end may be within 1-2 mph of the 40. hole shot will take a slight bit longer.<br /><br />On the flip side, I believe you're Johnson is a 2 cylinder...going to 3 cylinders will make the engine run a lot smoother with less vibration.<br /><br />Nav
