I recently purchased a 1987 Ski Centurion with a Indmar Ford 351 with 1000 hrs. Fourth time out this year the engine hydrolocked on me. I believe that the engind overheated due to bad impeller. Pulled the plugs and had water coming out of all cylinders plus a lot of water in oil pan when I drained it. Everyone told me I had a a blown head gasket. Pulled the heads and gaskets ok. There is a lot of corrosion in the cylinders and elsewhere in the engine. A buddy of mine who is a auto mechanic suggessted I just put in a new long block. If I do that I am also going to replace the exhaust manifolds and risers. I still am not sure how the water got in (probably through the exhaust)My concern is that if I do all this am I missing anything that could still allow water in. I live in Reno and we definately get freezing weather, supposedly the boat was properly winterized. I have read about "flappers" in the exhaust. Do these come with a new manifold and riser or do I have to purchase them seperately? Finally if I go with the marine remanufactured long block, could my auto mechanic friend install it, or are there things I need to be worried about?
