so, i'm finished coating my new floor cut-out and ready to place it in..my question is, is it necessary to screw the floor down to the stringers as well as glassing it in. I mean, wouldnt drilling into the stringers allow moisture in and enable them to rot??? i would think glassing the new floor to the hull would be plenty strong.but let me know what you think. thanks

gule it, screw it, & tatoo it. pay attention when glassing to hull to glass over the screws real well.

Jamie, Are you talking about the moisture that might get in between the underside of the deck screw hole, and top of the stringer screw hole? (the bilge area?) If thats the case, then I would dip each screw into an epoxy, and then drive'em home! That could help keep out any moisture from getting into the stringer screw hole. Does that make any sence?

yes, thats exactly what i was talking about! moisture from underneath the floor penetrating through the screw holes. After all the work put in, i didnt want a couple of screws rotting out my stringers...but good idea, i will dip the screws in epoxy first..thanks for the replies

Jamie,

I used 3M 5200 marine caulk on each screw. Drill, 5200 in the hole, drive in the screw. The screw will not ever come out and the hole will be sealed.

Peace.

Ed.
