Hi -
It looks like I have the chance to graduate from the red plastic 6 gallon fuel tanks (3 of them) to a 16-gallon white plastic Perko tank that was given to me by a friend. This would be nice, as I won't have to keep switching around fuel tanks on longer trips. Looks like a good setup to me but it will need some modification, as it was set up for filling via a remote fill-cap on the deck of the boat. I will need to modify this so that I can put the tank up in the bow of my boat and pump gas directly into the tank. I've never used this before, so I have a couple questions...
The existing fuel filler is via a remote cap and vent connected to the tank by 2 hoses, one for fuel and one for air/vent. I am planning to put some sort of glorified screen over the vent hole, and then cut the filler tube flush with the tank so that I can screw on a standard deck mount filler cap. Does this make sense?
Second question is whether or not I might expect the existing Perko fuel sender to work with a Fario Euro fuel level gauge. There is a metal tab on the fuel tank sender and it appears simple enough to hook up, assuming the Faria guage and Perko sender will talk to each other.
Third, is there anything further that I have to do about grounding the tank out? I'll have to fill directly into the bow of the boat, whereas I was previously lifting the 6 gallon tanks out of the boat to fill.
Last thing is hooking up the fuel pickup to my gas line, and that's just a matter of buying the correct fitting.
thanks for your help
