I just purchased a used 18 gallon bow tank for my 1961 18' Starcraft Holliday and was wondering where in the system to put the pumper ball. Just up from the tank or just down from the motor and is it alright to use the rubber fuel line for the whole 20 feet or so that it will take to do this or should I use some metal fuel line also. Right now I have 2--6 gallon portable tanks one on the right and one on the left and 2 deep cycle marine batteries in the middle I am wanting to move some of the weight up front so I can put on a 10 horse or so trolling motor and thinking that will be to much weight in the rear.

If you have the bow tank than youll have all that gas weight in the front.. I would put the pump part by the engine so its easier to reach.. you can take the portables out. and keep the battery off to one side and it will be fine

I've heard it's better closer to the tank...then again I've heard I'm good looking

Hey Rancher00, I would love to see a picture or two of your boat...I have the same year/model...also what are you running for horsepower?

Will be folloing this thread closely-I have been wanting to put some weight up front but didn't know if it would be okay to put a fuel tank so far away from motor.

That could be an issue.

No issue whatsoever. I put a 12 gallon "portable" in the front of my 16' closed bow.

I had the primer bulb near the tank. It sure was pain leaning under the dash to pump it. However, I have since read on here on a number of occaisions that you put the bulb near the motor.

So I'm understanding that there is no problem putting the tank in the bow and having it work fine and that the primer bulb will work fine in the front or the back.. Is there a problem with putting in 2 primer bulbs 1 in the front by the tank and another in the rear by the motor or would that just be overkill. I was mostly wanting some assurance that a primer bulb would work in this case and that I would not need some kind of electric pump to push/pull the fuel up to the motor..

No need. You'll be good with 1.
