I own a 1985 8hp Johnson. I was trying to put my lower unit back on and it wouldn't go together right. After taking everything out of the gearcase I noticed that the plate that the shift cam sits on is cracked and the cam won't sit in the right position. It just falls down. The plate is part of the entire gearcase. I would hate to spend the money on an entire new lower unit. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. If not, does anyone know where to get an inexpensive used gearcase. Thank you.
