New Grease Seal Spring Popped out. Penta SX-M

2005 Volvo SX-M 1.79

I just replaced the gimbal bearing and grease seal. While aligning the bearing, the spring on the grease seal popped off. Since everything is new I cannot take it apart and waiting to the next replacement could be a while.

Does anyone know how to put the spring back on? There is a little bit of space between the bearing and the seal to work in.

Since the bearing is now completely sealed, is the grease seal even very necessary? I can't imagine grease from the u-joint working up past the bearing.
