Hello all,

My name is Jason - 44yo - living in Central Mississippi. I'm new to the forum, but I have been on many and I know that the group as a whole usually likes an introduction first.

I just bought yet another project boat this weekend. It's a 19' center console bay boat. Brand? Have no clue. Just has a VIN stamped in the transom. I haven't registered it yet, so I really don't know. I have a call in to Texas, it's previous home, for more info. Got the boat and trailer for $300.

This weekend I am buying two 16' bass boats with trailers and motors. From the two sets I hope to get one nice bass boat out of it.

Anyway, on to the current project. Got it home yesterday and sighed "Why do I keep doing this?". Tonight I got the rub rail off, and stripped the deck and gunwales of all things screwed down. Not a bad night. Got more done than I thought. I have a few places to repair with some 'glass and epoxy. Might have it ready to paint by next weekend. I still have to build a console and seats.

By day I have a handyman business, been doing woodwork and other stuff nearly all my life. So I have all the tools that I could need for this type of work, if you can call rebuilding boats "work" - I call it "fun". Hey, some guys like hot rods, some guns, and some boats!

Here are some pics of the boat as I brought it home yesterday afternoon. If anyone knows the make, please chime in. I'm sure when I register it I will find out, but I would like to know ahead of time.

Kevin you forgot ATV's ;)

Welcome to iboats!

The Hull Identification Number is your key ;) If the boat was built in the 70's or newer you are in luck.... The first three characters (digits or letters) are the MIC Manufacture Identification Code and can be looked up on the USCG database The last two digits are the year built.

Try here. http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic1.aspx

You will find a wealth of do's and don't here and all pretty much proven.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. You seem to be the crowd I want to run with. Thanks for that link Bob. According to the USCG, My boat is made by Aquatech Marine LTD., parent company is SS Marine. They are still in business. The hull was built in 1974.
