hey everyone im new to anything boat. i recently bought a 1981 imperial regency with a 3.7L mercruiser. it had bad floors and they guy told me it ran. i tried to start it today and it has a short some where. from the looks of all the hacked wiring i need to rerun it all. the floor was soft so i ripped it up and found that all the floor runners are rotton too. can anyone help me find a wiring schematic for a 3.7 merc 170hp. and how to properly repair a floor?

You may have to post on the I/O forum to get the schematic you need...if someone doesn't post it soon. As for replacing stringers and deck, use the Search function on this forum...you'll get tons of hits and ideas on how to do it.

New Guy,

Here's a link for the factory manual for your 470 Merc.

http://www.myotherdrive.com/dyn/pv/318.450722.23072009.53414.6a64fi/cover.pdf

Click on "Download original" It's the full manual for your engine (and others).

I have a 1984 Imperial VC230 and recently spun my engine coupler due to a sagging front engine stringer. My floor has some soft spots too, so that's my winter project.

I'll be checking in to see how you do.

Good luck.

Re: new guy

thanks alot guys. everything looks good that u sent me. the floor looks like its pretty easy just a dirty process. the cross member that supports the front of the motor is rotten. it looks like it is ply wood. would it be ok if i use a 2x6 or something other than plywood?
