it was a cheapy as a gift a couple years ago, nothing important saved on it....

will windows xp pro find the drivers?
I have 3 options....xp pro, xp home, and windows 2000

While I don't consider myself an "expert". I have had experience with all three of these Operating Systems. I prefer XP Pro. It is much easier to manage user accounts, file sharing, all that network admin type stuff. :)

Yep, XP Pro. Just boot to the CD. You might have to change the boot order in the BIOS to boot to the CD.
Better security, better networking. Might not install all the hardware drivers, but you should be able to find them and burn to a CD. I find that the video and network card are the drivers you will need to download most often as well as wireless if you have it.

For me, that would mainly depend on the hardware. Of course you'd want to put XP on it, but it might run like a slug on old hardware. I say 256MB RAM minumum for XP (and Win2K for that matter) and 512MB recommended.

I poked around the Elitegroup website, but I didn't see any drivers for that model you mentioned. You can always google for 'em though. They're out there somewhere. You might get lucky and not need them though.
