New here, no spark 3.0 omc

Just purchased a 3.0 omc, not running for $1000, hull in great, needs a floor.

Replaced the:
spark plugs
ingination coil
Spark plug leads
Distributor cap
Roter
Points
Condensor

Points are opening and closing
There is 12 v with the key on at the coil

No spark even when spark plug is put in lead coming from coil.

Any suggestions?

with the points closed,insert a business card between the points, with 12v at the + side of the coil,
place a short across the points and then remove it, coil should produce spark. if not the wire between the dist and coil is bad. if you remove the card and spin the motor , you should have spark, if not the points are not closing completely to complete the circuit. If still no spark, remove the condenser lead. A shorted condenser will kill spark.

Thanks for your reply. I also read here that if the tach is bad it can short out the coil, I will try removing that wire too. I will post results when I am done.

While trying to stick a business card in between the points today I figured out that they were not closing all the way. After adjusting the points I had spark. Rookie mistake.

Now the engine will cough and not start. A buddy of mine is going to bring a timing light over on Monday. Happy Easter!
