95 Johnson 50 HP. 3 clnd. The motor is new to me and I noticed that it wasn't peeing good so I changed the impeller. Put it back together and started it up and it was peeing great and the overheat buzzer started going off! I noticed that it also looked like a river coming out of the exhaust. Where the prop is. I'm stumped! What's wrong with it! Obviously I'm not a mechanic but I need some help!

Did you change out the thermostats? If they are not opening, then the motor will overheat quickly.

Thermostats, more than one? I pulled the one out on the top of the head, above the top spark plug. All kinds of corrosion in there. Diaphragm and springs look good but I noticed the nipple in the thermostat itself pops right out, is this supposed to happen or could this be the problem?

Was the old impeller torn apart? I just did some work on my motor, and I found a piece of the old impeller up under the thermostat cover. Is it possible there's a piece of the old impeller blocking up a water passage somewhere?

I would change it out anyway. Thermostats are cheap and easy to repair. Corrosion and thermostats are not a good combination.

The impeller was shot, but in one piece. I ordered the thermostat yesterday so it should be here by this weekend. The alarm I'm hearing is intermittent not a solid beep. I'm thinking it might be a vro buzzer??? Reason being, I ran it without the thermostat in. And it gave me the intermittent alarm again. And the motor was cool to the touch. What do you think??
