New Impeller Prevents Starting

I have a Chrysler 12.9 hp Model 125HB. I was told it was a 1971.

I just change the impeller and water pump housing and it was a tight fit. It is so tight that the electric start can't turn the motor over now. The battery has a full charge, so that's not the issue. Also I can't manually start because of a problem with the rewind. I'm not sure that would make a difference anyway.

Should I have lubricated the impeller during the replacement? Any other ideas?

Submerge the lower unit in a trash can or similar container until the water level is above the waterpump. Then try it. I've never heard of an impeller causing the motor to not turn over. Normally, you would lube the impeller with dish soap or grease to aid in installation. But this should not keep it from turning over. Are you sure the vanes on the impeller are facing the correct direction? I suppose if they were not and it's dry, it may not turn over on a small engine using the electric starter..Try it in the tub of water and see how it goes...The water will act as lubricant..
