I am servicing the water pump on this motor this season and have not done this before. My only question is when do you choose a new kit vs. just a new impeller. I was not actually haveing any overheat issues, however I just aquired this boat last spring and ran it through the summer without replaceing the impeller. I don't want to take the chance of overheating this comeing summer do to neglect.

If it were only a couple of years old, I would change the impeller/gaskets/o-rings only.

Since you don't know when it was done, assume it wasn't done recently. I would change the entire kit. Then get a three year routine for the impeller.

Hey,Gary.Read my post about water pumps and how bad housings can get.If you like this motor, spend a few extra bucks and go 100%.This is my first big Johnson.(....that doesn't sound right)Evinrude,I mean.what I'm getting at is,if you think you'll be keeping it,(your Johnson/'Rude)do it completly.I was honestly surprised what my water pump housing looked like.Once you take yours apart, maybe you will see how bad they get.No sense in bangin' together like a lawnmower, right?Stay warm,C.C.

Sorry for late reply, Haven't had much time to stay focused on repair with work and all. I guess I should had recognize that it makes sense to have just replaced all without asking the question. Thanks for answering back though. Any how at this point I have dropped the lower end and replaced the impeller and housing, however something I didn't plan for. There's a gasket between the lower end and the exhaust tube that was twisted and mangled it looks as though who ever loosed the lower end before let it get twisted before they tightened the bolts. Does anyone no what a part number is for this gasket or what it is called.
