New info for prop question

Hey guys, I got my tiny tach in so I went to the lake today to see what the motor was spinning. My rig is a 1995 28hp Johnson on a 16 foot crestliner aluminum fishing boat. At full throttle with myself the dog and a fishing pole the motor maxed out between 5260 and 5350. This RPM reading was after I lifted the motor up 1 inch on the transom and messed with the trim of the motor. The middle pin seemed to give the best speed, but I don't really care about speed, im only concerned about longevity of the motor. I would imagine that since this was a very light load and it is on the bottom of the RPM specs, I should drop a pitch?

Yes it would seem you could drop about 2" in pitch that should put you at about 5,700 rpm.Someone may be along with more specific suggestions.
A GPS speed would be interesting.

Re: New info for prop question

I have a friend that has a GPS, I will have him bring it with sometime, but that will have to wait as he is in CA fighting fires right now. There was a noticeable pick up in speed today from past trips, but that could have been because I dropped 150lbs in weight. I will get more data and let you guys in on it.
