I am having issues with my newly wired kill switch not operating correctly.

Here is the run down,

Engine will start with kill switch in our out

Engine does not kill when lanyard pulled

Engine dies when lanyard pushed in

If i pull the wire that the kill switch is wired into (purple) the engine will die

I am wondering if I have the correct switch? or a bad switch...

Thanks Fuzzy

Engine is 1969 55hp johnson electric shift

Did you get a "factory" kill switch to replace an existing one? Those switches come in two different types ... one is normally open, the other is normally closed. If you got the wrong type, the motor should start with the lanyard pulled!

That engine does not have a kill switch. It has a key switch for battery CD ignition. If you have a magneto, or CD magneto switch, you have the wrong switch.

I wired the kill switch in afterwards. So I must have the wrong type, does the other kind have a ground? or does it just work opposite?

Thanks Fuzzy
