Hello all,

I have just finished swapping my new ATK longblock out on my year 2000 Volvo Penta 5.7l Gi. The old oil pan was toast and hence the new longblock came with an oil pan pre-installed. My original dipstick will not fit (it has course thread and the new oil pan drain plug has fine thread). Both new and old drain plugs are on the bottom center of the pan. This is really not something I expected or hoped to spend much time on this late in the game. I have researched until my fingers bleed and this is proving to be the most hard to figure out item on the whole motor. Anyone know what dipstick I need?

What you need there is the correct length and thread pitch banjo bolt with 2 copper washers. Its possible that the old pan had SAE threads and the new one has metric. You may need bring the new drain plug that came with the new engine/pan and the original banjo bolt and go to GOOD auto parts store (the kind real mechanics buy stuff at, not a big box no brains store) and buy a banjo bolt that matches the thread pitch of the new drain plug.
