Re: new lounge seat
Hi tengals123,

If I were to build a bench style lounge seat that would rest against the splashwell I would start with 1/2 pressure treated plywood and some corrigated cardboard. Use the cardboard to make the seat profile (as viewed from end of seat). Should be a box shape base with an angled back, sort of like the lower case letter "h". Cut 3 to 4 of these from the plywood. They act as the ribs and internal support for the seat and back. They are spaced out evenly across the back of the boat, and plywood across the front and rear enclose it. Galvanized or Stainless screws and epoxy to assemble. Marine vinyl can be attached to the base, sides and any of the back that is visable. Use contact adheasive, no padding needed here. Then cut and fit pieces for the seat and back that are to be covered with foam and vinyl. Think of hinging the seat bottom so the base can be used for storage.

I suggest a trip to the library to look at upholstry books. Lots of pictures of various techniques. Some of the Tuck & Roll style padding can be done with only a staple gun.

Also search this forum because a few of the guys have done their own upholstry and it looks great.

Hope you find my suggestions helpful.

Good Luck!
Mark.

EDIT:

One thing to think about is how comfortable will it be to sit there while the boat is running, due to the roar of the motor. One's head may only be a foot or two from the o/b.
