Re: new manifold still hot

just came back from the boat yard this is what i came up with.

i took of the two exhaust flapper on the side that has the hot riser, still run hot.

took off the port side that is not hot , in one word i awitch both sides, still hot so that rule out risers and manifolds.

took out the thurmostat and run it, still felt hot.

put back stat still hot.

the guage is holdind steady 150 at 4000 rpm.

so what could cause the starboard side to run hot i caunt keep my hand on the riser for long.

no water in the oil timing is good. the outdrive pump is pumpin alot of water could full a bucket in little time. could it be the circulating pump, or head gasket.

any info, thanks

other than that the boat is running great, just a little hot start problem

Re: new manifold still hot

Are you doing this "feeling hot" thing on the trailer, using muffs?

Re: new manifold still hot

This hot starboard riser happens only when you're idling? Did you check it while the boat is running, or at least increasing the rpm while on throttle mode? Increasing rpm increases water flow to both sides.

if increase the throttle in nutral it still felt hot this thing is giving me gray hair. thanks for the come back. the engine idle fine no shake no miss rpm is steady at 600 rpm. the only thing left is the check balls in the thurmostat housing i clean it up nice and put it back maybe i should have put a new one.

Re: new manifold still hot

have you checked the water flow to both manifolds at the top of the thermostst housing? also are the using the correct gaskets where the risers meat the manifolds, some are designed to run raw water through the risers and closed circuit through the manifolds. also hook a hose from your mains supply (house garden Hose) to the manifold and see if water is going through the system, If wont flow through, I bet it is those gaskets.

Bolo, pay close attention to the above post by Cameron. Make sure you have the right gaskets between the manifolds and risers. I believe that setup calls for the gaskets with 4 open passages. Also, you did install the gaskets dry
(no sealer)...right ?

Re: new manifold still hot

ok guys i am back, and thanks for helping.

first the gasket i used is the ones with two opens and two little pin holes.

the mechanic said maybe my thurmostat housing is no good.

the boatfix guys said i could soak the housing in some ceramatic asid, i did that and got it real clean.

did not get to try it because i did not took out the temp sender switch and the asid kill it, so in the morning i will put a new switch and see the result from the assid cleaning.

about the gasket i should be useing can someone post a picture of it please.

who knows maybe the ones on it now are the problem .

anymore info thanks much

Re: new manifold still hot

update pick up the carb from the carb guy today install runs good so far.

put a new temp sender switch, it use to idle with the temp guage at a little over 145 now if i sit idling the temp guage start rise to about 190 if i put it in nutral and hold rev say 2000 rpm the temp fall back to about 150 and stay there.

so what is this a out drive impeller problem or it is a circluating pump problem?? it runs great on the test run and the temp did not go up driving.

the impeller was sopose to be new install this spring but with these mechanic now a days if you dont see them install things with your own eyes you just have to hope.

i also found out the carb is not a marine carb there is no place to put the clear hose from the fuel pump.

what next help please
