Hello everybody from sunny Greece,
My name is Alexis and I'm glad to be around...

I'm a newbie in boating but I enjoy our famous islands in my 1998 6.2m R.I.B. fitted with a 3.0 lt mercruiser and all other goodies :)

I kept my boat out of water for the whole winter (mild) and I also clocked some 30 hrs since the last year's service, which was done by a Merc dealer.

I would like to put my hands-on this summer and make the service myself.
I'm capable of recognizing what a spark plug is and a couple of other things (I work on my LandRover and my high-tech motorcycles, myself) so would that be much more difficult ?
I don't have a manual and was wandering what should I check - replace on this baby ?

C'mon share the wisdom.....

I think you have them a bit stunned mate.
I have not been here long myself, and you would have to be the 1st Greek I have come across on this site.
What ever you do, don't give up. It's a good site and they are all good blokes.
I can't answer any of your questions as I know probably less than you about my boat.
Look forward to hearing from you again.
Cheers
Phillip

fist thing is to buy the factory engine and drive manuals. read them while eating reread them while hanging out. get to know your machine before you get to know your dealership :) :)
goiod luck and get the manuals

Hi Papa, and welcome. I would agree with the previous posts about getting the manual, there is really no substitute. I like the factory service manuals as opposed to other publications but some might differ on that. As for your mechanical competence level I can say this: I have owned Cagiva/Ducati motorcycles and I have owned I/O boats, if you can work on the desmo engines I don't think you will have much trouble keeping your boat humming. Good Luck! -JD

Hi Alexis, how about I come over there and maintain your boat for you free of charge. I have simple needs - food & accomodation (and maybe some olympic tickets). :D :D :D

Shouldn't he throw in one of those olive skinned Greek beauties to ride around on the deck of your boat? ;)

Re: New member from Greece says Hi !!!

The genuine sterndrive & engine manuals have more detail. I use the non genuine manuals (cheaper) but sometimes wish I had the better ones.

Aldo
