Hi there. I am looking for some extra speed from my boat. I have 1995 Ranger 461 vs comanche, 18' 6". And have a 1995 Johnson Fast strike 150, currentlty running a 13.25 x 24, 4 blade shooter prop. At wot i am getting 55mph at around 5500-5600 rpm. If some one could help me out with prop sizes and preferably a 3-4 blade comparison. Also i have a hydrailc jack plate and would like to know where to set it. Thanx in advance for the help

Tweak the jack plate up a notch. You apparently don't need a different prop as you are close on WOT rpm. I'd suggest installing a water pressure gauge so you can tell if you jacked up too high and begin losing water pressure.

The small diameter Shooter probably isn't helping you much at all, if any. Most of the Rangers we've messed with have benifited greatly from large diameter, high rake props.

At the very least I'd be looking for an older Raker at 14 1/2" diameter (the one with small vent holes). Better yet would be a Turbo Lightning at 14 3/4" diameter. If you're wanting to stay with a 4 blade (not a bad idea) I'd look at the Turbo Ultima 4 at 14 1/2" diameter.

If all you want is more top end, a 3 blade (24") should get you a few mph. Hole shot will suffer.

Hole shot and higher top speed are a difficult assignment.Trim tabs will help
hole shot and of course trimming in.
There has been some discussion here about drilling vent holes in props to help hole shot perhaps someone will discuss it here.

That small diameter prop on the V6 gearcase doesn't usually need any venting. The problem is the small blade area. Any good V6 prop that's at least 14 1/4" in diameter is probably going to be a vast improvement in holeshot.
