i've been lurking for a while reading up on a bunch of information on the boards, and i finally decided to join. I just bought a 87 Laser Fish and ski with a 115hp tower merc on it. My first question of many is how can i find the year model of the motor? I searched the forums and went to the sites everyone said but cannot find my serial number in the lists. The serial is 0B259579. I also looked for an oem manual, but i cant find the serial number in the lists for books.
A little bit of back ground. The motor has good compression, ranging from 129-135psi. Fresh fuel and lines. The previous owner put one new powerpack on it, and a new water pump less than 3 months ago.
I'm a die hard car guy, collision/restoration tech by profession. I'm an ase master certified mechanic, so i know my way around engines, and have the tools, just new to wrenching on outboards. Thanks in advance for the help.
