Hello

I got some help with trying to start a never run outbaord. I finally got to starting it yesterday but cannot keep it running and need some help with what to do. I do not have an owners manual.

Here is what I have done to get it going:

1. Placed about 1/4 teaspoon of 2 stroke oil in each cylinder and hand turned the motor.
2. Mixed 25:1 fuel.
3. Placed motor into trash can with water submerging the shaft 3/4 of the way.
4. Pulled choke out and pulled cord. Motor starts after 3rd pull, runs for a minute and then dies.

Observations:

1. One to two drops of fuel visible from carb when cord pulled first time.
2. Lots of smoke.
3. Telltale spitting good deal of water. Water is lukewarm after runnning for 2-3 minutes.
4. A good amount of oil floating in trash can.
5. Motor runs when playing with choke.
6. Motor dies when moving throttle from start to shift.

Any help to get this motor running properly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: New Never Run 7.5 Chrylser Problems

Sounds to me like the carb has some residual gummy junk from its long initial slumber. I am sure that the factory started each engine to make sure it would at least run for a second or two, then drained the gas, packaged, and shipped. There is a chance that this little amount of residual fuel has gummed the needle and seat, along with other passages. I would pull the carb and do a thorough cleaning. I bet $5 bucks that if you do this it will run better and more reliably.

Re: New Never Run 7.5 Chrylser Problems

Thank you for responding. It sounds like I will be pulling the carb to do some cleaning. I have a few other questions.

Are the drops of fuel coming out of the carb an issue?
Where can I find a good repair manual for these motors?
Since I am taking the carb apart should I replace some parts such as the diaphram?

Thanks again
