Greetings all..
Got the oil cap/float assembly replaced on my 2000 150 EFI and now have another issue!

Ran the motor for a day's fishing after replacing the oil cap/float assembly under the cowling. When I started it up to go home, I noticed a new noise. It is a tapping or clicking sound that is DEFINATELY linked to RPMs. It does not sound metallic, nor does if effect performance. I've searched around the forum and seen stuff on rods, tapets and/or lower-unit issues..but nothing seems to lead me to believe I'm experiencing one of these issues. The sound is too much like a "plastic" one.
I had sprayed some of the motor (mostly from behind the oil res DOWN) with a diluted degreaser and then hosed it off quite liberally before letting it dry for awhile and then using it PLUS replaced the oil cap...that's IT! I also ran it WOT for 10 minutes or so to burn off some oil that seemed to be on the exhaust somehow..
Could this new noise be the result of something I've done or just coincidentally a new issue?

Re: New Noise

Have you looked at the motor while on the muffs?

I recently had a new noise that came from a air pressure line that pressurized the main oil tank. The line came unplugged from the engine and made "puffing" sounds that increased and decreased as with the rpms...

Re: New Noise

I managed to reduce the noise by putting the muffs on my ears.. Had to stretch them out a bit, but my motor is way quieter and don't hear the wife anymore either.. :D :D
