I'm a newbie to boating and i'm looking to do right by my motor. is it air-cooled? what oil would you recommend and at what ratio? does a fuel injector additive hurt or help? I appreciate the advice of the experts, that's why i'm asking here. Thanks....

It is water cooled- It sucks water up from near the prop thru the motor- thats why you should never run it out of water unless in a bucket- 50:1 gas:eek:il I use pennzoil 2 stroke for outboards-

Would you suggest TCW3? what about additives? any that are worth the money and help instead of hurt?

You MUST use a TCW3 oil. This is specifically formulated for outboards. The only additive I'd ever recommend is Seafoam-- Check out the decarbing nfo in the FAQ
BTW where you at in MI? I grew up near Fremont-- Boy I sure miss those nice Michigan summers- Today here in Austin it was ~99 degrees

does a fuel injector additive hurt or help?
Hurts real bad and can cause you to sieze the motor. The reason being is it is possible for it to remove the oil film inside the engine.

This is not a four stroke do not spray carb cleaner into the carbs either!

i do my boating up at torch lake, but i live near port huron. and by the way, you aren't missing michigan summers! 95 degrees during the day and 85 degrees at night for the last week or so. mix it with the michigan humidity and you've got weather that compares to florida! thanks again for your help.
