Hi everyone! Just bought a 1988 Baretta in nice shape but hasn't been run in two years. So heres what I got;
* No spark, cap and rotor are in good shape, I have not checked the points yet. Am I right that the points control the power to the coil to produce the spark?
* I disconnected the fuel line at the carb and cranked the engine, no gas. There is only 5 gallons of gas in the tank, is this enough? Does the fuel pump fail often?
* Sterndrive, I can not lower it. Is there a seperate relay for up and down? Suggestions.
Thanks to all ahead of time for any help!

the AQ131 seems to have a simple wiring system. Power from the battery to the starter. Lead from the starter to the Re-settable fuse ( its the red button on the bracket next to the carb ). Off that there is a lead to the relay and a lead to the control panel.

In your case you have 3 problems
1- no spark. Check the coil for power with the key on. If no power go back to the panel and fuse. If no power there check the relay. If no power got back to the red button fuse.

2- sterndrive wont lower ( I would be willing to bet its an electrical issue that's tied in with the engine not firing ). Hot-wire the motor which operates the sterndrive with 12v and if it works its the switch. If it doesn't work the motor has likely failed

3- I would pull the intake side of the fuel pump line and place it in a jerry can and crank then engine over. If nothing within 30 seconds then replace the pump ( they are cheap if you purchase the automotive pump from a parts store for a carbureted volvo 240 / 244 early 80's

Good luck !
