Great info on this BBS. I just purchased a used boat and motor. Modle of the motor is S250TXRU. A Salt Water 2 with carbs. The power head was replaced in 1999. The motor starts and runs good, but it has not been in the water for the past 3 years.

I did a test run and did not encounter any real problems. It ran a little rough at first, but them smoothed out at higher speeds. It runs a little rough at Idle, but not real bad.

After reading some advise in this message board, I think I had better step back and check the whole system befor I run it hard. I will get a manual this week. I was thinking about rebuilding the carbs or at least clean them, replace plugs, and change lower unit oil.

The cooling system looks good. It has a solid stream of water flow out the pisser. I will flush the main fuel tank befor I use it. The gas smells good, but it is several years old.

What are some good general maintence issues I need to perform to keep her going strong?

replace the water pump,t-stats and pressure valve grommet, replace the fuel lift pumps and flush the main jets and ditch any fuel older than 5 months, then test all the alarm systems.
the V76 carbed motors were very good but wont tolerate lean outs and overheats. over cooling from a bad T-stat can burn #6 piston.
make sure you have a good quality water fuel seperator and check it often.
