Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me...the problem is I went to start my boat to flush the salt water out and I couldn't get it to crank(like a dead battery)....tryed to jump and even swapped batteries...same outcome. Starter cable was hot, starter was cooking so I replaced the starter. Unfourtunately same outcome. Got curious and pulled the plugs, found water in the pistons. Motor will crank without plugs, but when re-installed acts like it has a dead battery again(can't take the compression)....the boat ran excellent and did not run warm 2 hrs prior to this...any ideas what caused this and what to do now?

The engine is hydro locked. In order to discuss why it happened, youre gonna have to give the year and make of your boat and engine. There are many reasons from bad timing, bad manifolds, cracked block, freeze-salt damage or incorrectly "souped up" engine. Spin the engine long enough without plugs to blow the rest of the water out. Then squirt oil down plug holes and spin engine with out plugs again, This should preserve the engine til you figure out whats damaged.

Can't believe I left out the motor info! It's a 1985 Beachcraft with a GM 305. My daughter was driving and chopped the throttle pretty good right before we shut down on the last trip out,I heard that this could cause problems

Do What Mercrewser says,+ Then you can get it Lit, to see How Bad it Is..........<br />Possibly the Kid Chopping the Throttle is the Answer.......<br />And, There's No other Damage.........<br />Maybe........... :D <br /><br />BTW, "(can't take the compression)"<br />Compression is tested with All the Plugs Out,+ The Carb. held WOT.......

It's a OMC,what I meant by the compression comment was that when I re-installed the plugs the starter wouldn't crank it,like there was water in it again. Can anyone tell me what happens by chopping the throttle? I'm assuming that water comes back up the exhaust and through your exhaust valves,is that correct?

and shutting it off instantly may cause it to run backwards for an instant causing water to get sucked up the exhaust. Always idle engine for a few minutes after removing load before shutting off. This stabilizes hotspots that can ignite fuel on there own after ignition is shut off.
