It looks like I may have to take back what I said
about Quebec in a previous thread.
The Parti Quebecois was trounced by the Liberals
in yesterdays provincial elections.
Quebec is ready for a new era of partnership with
the rest of Canada. This may be very good for
Canada as it promotes stability. Hopefully
it will leave the sovereignty movement behind.

That's good, NoSleep.

About 140 years ago part of the US decided we wanted to be a seperate, sovereign nation.

We killed about half a million of our brothers and destroyed the economy of half our nation before that was settled, if it was ever settled.

Just read the article in the newspaper, It will be interesting to see how this plays out. However I have to believe this will be good for Canada.

Now if you can just get rid of the gun registry and put that money to better use ... maybe a new boat every three years for everyone who buys a fishing licensce, just thinking out loud. ;)

Finally a forum to express a little insight. Quebec has been running the Canadian federal political scene for years 75% of the Canadians have no idea that its happening. Quebec would implement a program, then a year later Ottawa would propose it for across Canada. English Canada have poor politicians. 88% of Quebecers didn't want the war in Iraq so Ottawa said no war. Retired Major General McKenzie was quoted on this in the french paper last week.

So let me get this straight. In Canada, "Liberals" is a good thing?

No Bassman, liberals are not a good thing.
But the reference to the Parti Quebecois
being trounced is a good thing. This may be a
start to some cohesion in Canada. We in western
Canada do not have federal representation for the
concerns of this part of Canada.I know it may be
just a beginning of change. but I am an optimist
and perhaps something good may come of it. We
will see what happens to the liberals in the
next federal election. We still have some
democratic principles left in this country.

Mellowyellow, you will find no more anti American
sentiment in Canada then you would find at home
in the U.S. However most anti American comment
will originate out of Quebec. And as stated in this thread ,if it comes out of Quebec the federal
government will support it.As the country's
political policy's are dictated by Quebec to the
rest of the country.

We have a lot of funny ways to define them there liberals.

In BC, the Liberal party is pretty right wing. They want to privatize al lot and don't pay enough attention to the environment on some of there business backing (want to hear about fish farms???).

The Quebec Liberals are led by the former leader of the Federal COnservative party and, while I'm not sure how they fair in the left/right debate, are primarliy for keeping Quebec within Canada.

The Federal Liberals are all about big Government taking care of us (re: Kyoto, gun registration, safe boaters card etc.) but do sit on the left side of the fence. I think they are close to the Democrats in their leanings.

That may change some next election if Paul Martin is Prime Minister as he ran a pretty right wing budget when he was finance minister. Things like not increasing debt for social programs etc.

Hope that explains our country.

Re: New partner in Canada

"I am not a Canadian" quote.
Those four words from Bloc Quebecois MP
Yves Rocheleau sparked an uproar in the House of
Commons on Thursday after he blurted out during
question period he is not a Canadian but a Quebecer.
Prime Minister Jean Chretien AKA "wing nut"
suggested Roucheleau was happy enough to be a
Canadian when its time to cash his pay cheque.

The outburst comes a day after the House of Commons
voted 168-38 to defeat Rocheleau's motion calling
on Ottawa to recognize the Quebec Nation
