Any of you hear about a new virus or computer bug that eats up resources (slows down the mouse, and slows down the opening of any program, folder, or file)??

It also won't allow me to run scandisk, it restarts it every 6 seconds!!!

Then, after 28-43 minutes, it reboots the computer.

It appears to be adding files to my harddrive, but I cannot locate them. I went from scanning (Ad-Aware) 34,000 files on Monday, to scanning 40,000 files today.

Also, I have some cookies that won't delete by going into "Internet options".
But I can go into the cookies folder and delete them manually???

Started yesterday :(

I run Windows ME, Zone Alarm, Ad-Aware, Nortons antivirus and internet security. All are kept updated, 3 times a week.

I've gone thru this thing twenty times, and I am about to do a reformat, unless anyone has another suggestion. Actually, I am going to install a second HDD and install Windows on it, but don't want to transfer any virus or corrupted files.

Any ideas?

Roscoe,
Try going here TDS-3
Download the trial program along with the 'includes' file. Install and manually add the 'includes' file (trojan database) and do a full system scan.

Can also try 'SpyBot Search & Destroy'.

Its free but I don't have an address - just do a search.

Since I started using it, it has found and deleted a ton of nasty (hidden) cookies. Definetly sped up the computer.

Aldo

You might try going in to the add/delete programs in the control pannel section.

Once you are in there, slowly go down the list and look for unathorized programs, etc. that have been downloaded in to your computer, without your knowledge.

I check this area about once or twice a week and recently, some company called "save now" had installed, (what I call) a "pop-up magnet into my computer.

I sent the company a scathing e-mail, claiming they had "hacked" my computer bu installing their software into my computer, without my permission or knowledge and I was going to notify the FCC and the federal trade comission, along with my state's attorney general, of their invasion.

Since I removed their "package" from my hard drive, I haven't had one popup and my computer runs faster.

I had been plagued with pop-ups for quite a while, but the "save now" site I located, had been in my computer less than a week. I had reveived popups from the same outfit for quite a while, but again, their installation was in for less than a week.

I also found some spyware in my system, placed there by using the Hawaiian Airlines web site.

Good luck.... ...Bob in Calif...
