Re: New Pinstripe/decal Package For Old 'toon'

I have a 1982 Landau 24' pontoon boat that I just restored. I guess maybe I should call it rejuvenated since I did some modifications that were not on the original boat. My panel paints were all crazed and cracked as well as the striping. I got some Home Depot paint stripper and tried it. Worked like a charm and the metal (AL) under the paint was shiny like it was chomed. Wasn't but sure was bright. I went to Sherman Williams and asked them for advice. I had already asked Home Depot and he referred me to an industrial SW. They recommended a primer that they said would stick to anything and then a top coat. I cranked up my spray gun, have a little old Craftsman 1 1/2 HP air compressor of 1979 vintage, and it really looks great. My only mistake was in trying to match the gray carpet. The paint swatch had more blue in it than I desired. Still looks great! Both were oil based paint. When I go to the shop after awhile I'll try to get the can lable and send you the type of paint. Haven't got the pin striping yet but my son was going to look at the auto paint stores for that. I nixed putting flames on it though. The most work was the stripping, some of it took two coats but came out clean as a whistle. Washed the stripper off then wiped down with acetone. Of course the taping was a big job to keep it off the railing tubes and the removal took a couple of hours. Proud of the way it came out. Longevity is an unknow since I just did this a couple of months ago and has been inside the shop while doing other things like a almost new engine. Just finished the break in time on it today.
Good idea on going to a sign shop for striping material.
Good luck on your project. Hard work but fun and worth it.
