Sounds better than "Redneck" or "Radical Conservative" to me. They seem to be negative labels. It also seems negative to me to be labeled a "Truck driver with a Confederate flag on it".

Saw a bit on TV about this.

Supposedly, NASCAR Dads are rural, adult white males who make less than $50,000 a year.

In the last election, only 2% of them (us?) voted, but they voted 70% to 30% for Bush over Gore.

Are they (we?) to be a significant power in the '04 election? What would it take to get a high voter turnout?

Real good question JB. Don't often express a political opinion but the question you pose, begs me to post.

How about a political candidate that is not shoved down our throat?

I remeber being told when I was growing up that anybody....ANYBODY....can grow up to be president. The only part that was left out was "If You Got the Money".

There is no doubt in my mind that all candidates are bought and paid for by large intrests, whether they be political or business. Of course certain obligations must be agreed to first or there is no deal. I really see the presidency as nothing but big business anymore. And that is sad. Yes, we've had some presidents that we can say really done a good job. But they are few and far inbetween.

Ever wonder who we would see run for the highest office in the land IF, during the next campain, the candidates were told, "Your on your own. You figure out how to get out to the people. No outside help". Be interesting.

What would bring out the voters? How about a candidate with no political or outside ties except to the American people?

Just my $.02 worth.

This latest "Buzzword" puzzeles me. The NASCAR dads are now the swingvote in this country. I love how they take a group of people and determine that if we could just get them to the poles by making them feel that " Wees jus good ole boys like you" they will win.

Seems to me if they would just step off the party's platform and take a stance about things that matter to ordinary citizens they would be much better off.

I like a decisive candidate that takes a stance regardless of implications. Even if I disagree with that stance, at least I know where he stands.

IMO why Nascar and not Football? In football your expected to pick a team therebye alienating 50% of the fans. In Nascar you can have a favored driver without the rivialry, How convienent...

I realize the highest office in the land is busy but, you would think a "fan" would stay till the end of the race. Oh well, we all know how much politicians love face time. Not much of that after "Gentelman, Start your engines" !!!

Whats the age breakdown? maturity and or passion brings most people to the box. Sure wish that more people with media exposure i.e. the Pres., actors, sports people, whould take oppurtunitys to educate all who watch. Way to many of them won't speak out because they know they will be pilliared by the press, and that is a fact. It whould help if conservatives had more visable role models, I wish they would come out of the closet. ;) To get them to the polls?, if you don't vote, no hunting/fishing license.

I dont think anything bad about the label NASCAR Dad, nor soccer mom. It is just an easy way to refer to a group of people. Same like "african americans" or "hispanic"

A label is what you make of it. Why do you think it is negative?

"Redneck" or "Truck driver with a Confederate flag on it", dont sound bad to me either.

In fact, I would consider GW Bush more fitting of the redneck label than any other. Considering he grew up in Texas, likes hunting, and driving around his ranch in his truck. All he needs in the confederate flag and a trail of beer cans that follow him, and he would definately be in.

(FYI, I like GW Bush).

Ken

All of this labeling whether it's soccer moms or Nascar dads, in my opinion it's just another sinister method used by the news media to muddy the waters :(
Just ask yourselves this, with the vast amount of money being raised by candidates whether they're republican, democrat or independent, where is it spent?

Have no idea if that is a legitimate "voter group" or not, but I must say if it is, and the criteria is rural adult white males making less than $50k, and they tend to support republicans, I guess I would like to understand why exactly they would vote against their economic self-interest.

Their tax rates are higher, when all income and payroll taxes are considered, and tax loopholes for the wealthy are factored in, than higher income people--The bellbether items of the republicans like the estate tax are not likely to affect more than 1 in a thousand of them, or the dividend interest exemption, which for most of these folks, their stock holding would be in a 401k or something similar and exempt anyway...
They are likely to pay more for health insurance.
For every nickel wasted on individual welfare fraud, there is probably $1000 in corporate welfare, and things like corporations moving their headquarters to an off-shore PO Box and avoiding taxes---taxes that ultimately have to be paid by someone.

About all I can conclude about the Republicans is that they are pretty good salesmen--they seem pretty good at convincing people they want what they don't need, and need what won't help them.

PW,i don't think it is right to lay this at the republicans doors only, the democrats do exactly the same crap, they also accept bribes from these special interest groups and they also hand out corporate welfare to the detriment of all working class Americans who earn less that $100,000.00 per yr.

How about radical campaign reform? Outlaw any and all campaign contributions. Outlaw campaign ads of any kind. Each candidate submits a resume and personal net worth statement that is verified for completeness and accuracy by an independant government agency. Then let the voters decide.

I know, I know. It'll never happen.

I think this is great!!!

When is the last time a politician gave a $hit about what a lower to middle class WHITE man thought??

Its about time!!

I, for one, am tired of getting pushed off the stage.

Bring it on!!!!

They use to call that a racist.

But how could that be??

That would be profiling, and we all agree that is wrong. ;)

Reality check time...

If you think they really do care about us little pee-ons, ya probably ought to have yer head examined...

Heck, most of these dirt bag politicians would sell their own mother for half a buck, if they though it would buy them some more votes.. Kind of like the old carpetbagers, the guy who leaves town with the most money wins... :(

Just good old pandering for votes, thats all...

Exactly.

And this is the first time they have even attempted to pander to the lower to middle class white man in recent memory.

I say I like it.

At least my point of view gets discussed instead of dismissed.
