This is my first boat that I have ever thought about buying. Does it matter that I want to buy a houseboat that came from a fresh water lake and put in salt water? Do I have to make a change to the boat so that it can be in salt water? Can it go into both fresh and salt water?

Re: New Potential Buyer

Hi brianfb6, welcome to iboats. Salt water is more corrosive than fresh water. Deck fittings and hardware on your boat that aren't high quality stainless will rust if you don't take extra good care of them. Your pontoons and motor need protection from electrolysis. You will need to install zinc anodes on the pontoons and on the motor if they don't already have them. That's all I can think of, others may have more ideas. Good luck.
