Even ones you never knew you had.....Then ya get rid of it cause you're tired of the boat note and insurance and you get an old ugly boat that still does the same thing as the new pretty one.....then you find out who your true friends are. Yall know, the ones that help out with gas, bring their own beverages and food. The ones that come help you pull wrenches on old ugly boat so yall can get back out on the water......anyone care to chime in on this one???

I live on a lake, used to have a nice Bass boat but havnt had a boat for three years. When I had the boat, my ex brothinlaw was here at least two weekends every month. Pole in hand, It was OK as I liked him and he was fun to fish with. After I sold the boat I havnt seen him. Now I have another boat, What do want to bet?????

everyone wants to step off the boat
"Thanks for a nice day"..
I usually say "better grab that hose and help to wash her down or else there will be no more nice days"

Re: New, pretty boat equals lots of friends.......

I bought my boat when I was 40 and have enjoyed her ever since. My 'friends' grew rapidly as they all decided to be best friends when I mentioned fishing. They didn't visit, they just wanted to go fishing.
I tested it out this way, I set a date for fishing and announced to all and sundry that I only had one seat left and they'd need to settle it themselves.
It took only one month to sort out, I haven't heard from a few of them since and the others still enjoy my hospitality.
There's a few rules printed and pasted on the rear transom, amongst them is rule no 4 - which says, "You've enjoyed my hospitality fishing/boating, now show your appreciation by helping with the cleaning up".
That one still tickles me cause I've heard a lot of excuses to get out of that job. My answer is simple, "if'n you don't help clean then don't come back"!
Ross

Never had that problem of friends not wanting to do there share.
Never had allot of friends. Only three friends.
Many ! many aquintances.
I believe in the theory of you can count all your friends on one hand !!!! :)
Most people that I offer to take fishing go out of their way to help even tho I tell them that I'm going anyway.
They help take the gear back to the truck.
Even offer to pay for gas and food.
When I refuse I usually end up getting a gas or food certificate.

We don't take too many people with us but when we do invite others I usually refuse monetary offers but gladly accept help with the cleanup/unloading. I figure we were going anyway and if we invite someone it's not because we need help with fuel, bait or food. The only thing I usually tell them is bring their beverage of choice.
Now if someone more or less invites themselves it's a whole new ballgame. I let them know up front about shared costs.
Not to derail the post but if you want to find out how many "friends" you have buy a beach house.
