I have had my boat up and not running for a little while because of the weather . 5 mins ago I go to started and i can't get to idle. Anything above 2000 and it will stay up. When I shut it down and it is warm I hear little tick tock tick tock and can feel it on the lifter is this normal it sounds like my truck.... I think I may have flooded the carb bad so i am going to let it sit for about 30 mins then try again.

But I am worried about the tick tock sound.... is this normal heat movement for metal? It is only when the engine is off and warm and for about 4 seconds

So its not flooded I just went out and tried. I have no middle rpm controll if i tap the throttle it goes to 3k. And I am on muffs so i cant really do that. It is starting look like a carb rebuild.

Dump the filter into a clean clear container and let it sit, if there is water in it you will see it on the bottom.

The carb ain't clean your idle is messed up do the rebuild.

chief,
dump the contents and there is no water in the gas.. so we are good there. There Gas is getting to the carb and the filter is clean so it has to be the carb. So i will rebuild it.... Any suggestions on kits I have this carb.... the first one.

Also, as far as the ticking. It seems like normal engine cooling noise but i thought boats ran cooler and didnt have this...

Could have some localized hot spots due to lean running because of the gunked up carb.

When did you do a FULL tune up on it last?

You could pull the plugs and do a compression check while your waiting for the carb kit.

What the plugs look like they talk, you got to listen.

The hot spots might go away after we fix the carb problem, one thing at a time.
