I have a 14' f/g double eagle with a 94 60hp johnson, the hull is of 1975 so its pretty old but in decent shape. Right now the engine is trimmed at the 2nd hole from the transom and it is an old OMC prop thats a little dinged up and had a few repairs. Iam getting 31mph at 5100rpm, I can trim up one hole to the third one but bowrise gets noticably worse until on plane and the prop tends to blow out a bit when turning and when it gets really choppy, porpising also starts in, how ever I can get it to 32-34mph and 5300-5500rpm. I can trim to the fourth hole and bow rise becomes horid and blow out even worse and the boat porpises like crazz, but I can get it 5400-5600rpm and 34-36mph. Anyways I will be getting a new prop soon, most likely a turning point hustler I like what I have read on them and the price. However Iam going to be getting smart tabs as well to hopefully fix most of the above problems at the 3rd hole, and Iam hoping the 4th trim hole will become more usable to me as well. So should I wait until I have the trim tabs installed on my boat and see how much they help my boat before I get a new prop, and if so once I get the trim tabs and install them should I get the current prop fixed up (its not bad but its got a tiny little bend in one of the blades only noticable if you really inspect it) or will it give me an accurate enough reading (rpm) to base that on which pitch to get for my new prop? Thanks in advance for your help.
