I bought a new prop this morning for my '74 150hp inline 6 mercury outboard. Went from 19 pitch to 21. Now the **** thing doesn't fit...the trim tab is in the way! What do I do? Do they make different size trim tabs or something?

Alright, I decided to just cut the trim tab off. Now I've got a different problem...the inner round part of the prop...the cylinder that the blades attach to...is to long. When I tighten down the prop nut it won't spin, because it is too tight. Is this the wrong prop?!?

Hi,<br />If you got a 20degree rake prop the trim tab will be in the way. You did not say what prop you bought but, if it is a lazerII you probably just need a different thrust hub for the prop. I cut my trim tab off yrs ago and use a tourqe tab rivited to my skeg works much better than the High Preformance trim tab Merc has to solve the hitting problem. Merc also sells galvanic corrosion plate that is flat to replace the trim tab but, you made your own so good for you. Just put on a tourqe tab, get the right thrust hub and go for a ride.

Yes, I did cut off the trim tab, and no it did not make a single bit of difference. The idiots at the Mercury dealership gave me the wrong prop...so now I have a different one and it fits just great.

I'm thinking about giving them a bill for the 4 hours or so it took me to cut if off and try and make the other prop fit @ $70 an hour...that's what they would do to me...
