Gang,

My new prop hits this trim tab. I understand this tab is for non-power steering drives. I'm installing smart tabs. Do you think I'll be cool if I remove the tab? Boat, engine and prop specs below. When I ordered this, it said nothing of being for a PS only Alpha 1 drive.

This sucker has a big rake... Didn't notice till now. The prop has been in the basement since December.

What pitch was the prop you took off? As far as removing the Tab that isn't a big deal. That is for keeping it going straight. You can get different shaped ones. I am assuming when you say the prop has a big rake you are talking about the pitch.

Sorry about my lack of termanology, pitch.... It's been some time since I was in the prop fourm... I took off the stock 14.25 x 21"P.... This prop is much more radical... Lot's of cupping also...

Rake and pitch are two different elements of prop design.

Iboats has a decent "prop school"

Click on any of the propeller links at the top of the page, scroll down and on the right side is the propeller help guide.

Hope it works well for you and you are not over propped. Please let us all know how it performs.
Good Luck and enjoy.

It will be fine, i have had the same issue. The prop just has a high rake...is that a Stilletto or solas HR..;)

That node simply has had the fin pushed futher back..about a inch if i remeber correctly.

You can get a thinner tab from the Merc dealer. You should run it.It helps with steering. Jerry

My outdrive has no tab, it came that way from the factory.

I don't think you should be running without that tab, as it is an anode (ie made to get eaten up.. so your outdrive isn't). You can replace it or just grind it down until it fits. You likely don't need that fin at all, as the entire piece is an anode, not just the fin.

Just to clarify, mine has no tab but has a tabless anode.

Cuda, you definately want to get the offset tab. With a 3.0, you probably don't have power steering, the tab helps to offset prop torque.

Boats with power steering can use the flat plate instead of the tab.
