As the title says I am looking for a new prop for my 2006 Tahoe Q4. I think I have gathered all the relevant info needed for someone who is in the know about prop sugestions.
1. The prop I have on the boat now seems to work well if I only have myself and one other person aboard while on a lake outing except for when I make any sharp hard turns with alot of throttle I get prop blowout. With that said most of the time I have more than just two people aboard someone is always wanting to help me enjoy my boat haha. The most common problem I have that I would like to correct is a better hole shot with 4-5 people aboard and better performance while pulling a tube with the same amount of people 4-5 total with any number of combinations on the tube or onboard, 2 on the tube and 3 in boat or 3 on tube and 2 in the boat ect. While tubing the boat just seems to lag to much while turning and too long to get up to speed in the range of 20-25mph. Tubing is the only watersports we do, no skis or wakeboards so need for a mega hole shot to get someone out of the water but a improved hole shot would be ideal with better mid range speed performance for turning ect.
2. The current prop is the factory mercury 14.25 X 21 aluminum prop that came on the boat.
3. Wide open throttle with two people aboard and a almost full fuel load is 4750 - 4800 RPM and 43 MPH ( as I understand it you lose something to gain something when changing props. Top end isnt that important to me as my sweet spot crusing is around 4000 RPM at arond 32 MPH )
4. 3.0 mercruiser, 140HP, Alpha 1 outdrive 2.0 ratio
5. Boat is a 2006 Tahoe Q4 sport, MFG specs say the boat weighs 2062lbs ( I assume thats empty with no one onboard or fuel? ) and is 19' long
I understand there is only so much you can do with a 3.0 and 140 HP but would love to dial it in a little better to suit our needs. I have read numerous threads and heard the 4 blade props are ideal for handling the problems I would like to correct, but also hear that I might be a little short on HP for a 4 blade. I also would like to stay with a aluminum prop if possible to save on cash the wife is already upset I am looking to buy another as she doesnt drive the boat or understand what it can possibly change. FYI not sure if it matters when selecting a prop but I have installed a set of the SX nauticus self adjusting trim tabs on the boat to correct some handling issues as well (FYI best money I have spent on the boat thus far)
*** THANKS in advance for all the help and I look forward to your replys ***
