I went from 17 to 21 because I was hitting like 6100 and then engine wanted so much more. So now I am getting around 5400 which is in range. My question is . On the new prop it has about a 1/4 inch to 3.8 of an inch of moving room back and forth ... is this bad? can it hurt my shaft?

are you speaking of front to back movement.Rotational movement would be bad.I would think you could eliminate front to back slop with a thicker thrust washer.

Are you moving the prop only or the shaft too?

I speaking only of front to back movement. There is about a 1/2 inch fslop front to back the shaft and the hub on the prop are fine ... will this cause damage to the shaft ?
