Greegings all,

I have a Trophy Plus that I believe is a 24 Pitch on my 2000 Mercury efi. It has been great. So great, I've never had to think about it..until the other day. I seemed to have struck a free-floating tree and damaged it. One of the blades hasd a slight "burr/ding". Another blade has 3 or 4 VERY slight "burr/dings" and another blade has a "scuff".
I've found Trophy props at various places online from 400-699$. I was quoted a price of 150$ to have it "reworked" via a place called H&H propellor in Brunswick Maine (I'm in Maine). I was given the quote with prop "unseen" by the place.
My question is: should I try the "rework" method..and is that a good price". My second question is:
I THINK I have a 24 pitch..is there a way to tell?
Thanks!
mcbass

Re: New prop or rework existing prop?

MC:
The pitch should be stamped into the prop housing. For instance, 13X24 would mean a 13" diameter prop with a 24 pitch. I know nothing about Trophy props, but if a new one cost $400-$600, then the $150 rebuild is very reasonable. A prop that is rebuilt correctly is absolutely as good as a new prop ... no quality differences (if done correctly). From the "damage" you described, this prop is definitely worth a rebuild. My 2 cents worth ... Fred.

Sounds to me like it's definitely worth the rebuild as well.

There should be a part number stamped on the outside of the hub. Sometimes the pitch is not directly stamped. The pitch is designated by the part number. If yours is a 24, you have a small hub prop and should be part # 48-825940A46. That prop is listed as 13-3/4" in diameter.
