So i installed a new water pump on my 85 mercury xr2 150. Old one was toast. before it would barley make pressure at idle. now its at about 10-15 psi at idle-2500k or so( readings are on a hose out of water). NOW, its weeping out of what i think is the poppet valve(starboard side bottom of engine block). havent taken boat out since i did the pump. never overheated at high rpms before. should i rebuild it before taking it out or not worry about it?

yep, diaphragm's bad. You need the gaskets, and the diaphragm. Maybe other parts, maybe not.
