So I got a new regulator and the new one has a couple extra wires. The old one one had the 2 yellows, 1 red and 1 gray. The new one has 2 yellow, 2 red, 1 gray, and 1 black. The two yellows are easy. I figured the greys go together. The black grounds to the engine and the two red both connect to the same red off the boat. Is that right?

Re: New regulator

Not familiar with the L drive but usually red is positive voltage and black is ground. Yellow is probably A/C from the stator and grey is probably tachometer--Check your wire loom under the dash. If grey is tachometer, it connects with either one of the yellow wires for signal. If it is a discreet separate wire on the regulator, then it connects to the termoinal labeled tach on the terminal board.

There are only for spots that the other regulator hooked up to and they were the same color. 2 yellow 1 red 1gray. Now I have an extra red and a black.
