It's both. This is a Rectifier with an internal Regulator circuit. It regulates the output voltage of the rectifier to prevent over charging.

That should work, have used the same one, from the same seller, who happens to live 2 miles down the road from me.


Also, the battery is an active component in the system and acts to absorb the voltage.

And no, it will not kill the battery, unless he runs it for days on end and it causes the battery to cook. Highly unlikely on a boat.
