When my seal kit comes in on Monday I'm going to replace the seals in the lower unit of my FD-20C 1966 20hp Johnson Seahorse, would it be a good idea to scrub the whole lower unit down real good with gas or just clean up good around the seals and let it be.

I'll never tell anybody to clean parts with gasoline. Too dangerous. Mineral Spirits is a good substitute. Once you get it apart, you will find it is a greasy, dirty, oily mess. It is SO much more pleasant to work with clean parts.

Yeah I know your not supposed to use gas to clean with lol, I have done it all my life and I know that's no excuse either, I just wanted to make sure it couldn't damage anything, should I clean the gears in the gear unit as well
