You will probably have trouble finding someone to do just the sewing. They usually start at about 100$ per cushion depending on the size. The type of vinyl will effect the price too.You want to use something that is mildew proof and the will withstand freezing temps.DONT use any old vinyl that they sell at Fabric bonanza.Make sure to wrap the cushion in plastic and seal it before covering it with vinyl. If you use wood as a base use marine wood or treat the wood that you use.The best thing to use is starboard plastic wood.

Or you could install a wooden, removable bench/board and cover it with outdoor furniture cushions. Cheap, easy and lets you pull that seat out for more room when needed.

Re: new seat uppolstery?

Hi savannah, I re-did the vinyl in my 1980 chris scorpion, it wasn't too bad actually. I used my wife's singer and some marine grade vinyl. most of the vinyl is simply stapled to half inch plywood with stainless staples, anything that was stitched i took apart and used for a pattern then stiched the new pieces back together using a outdoor all weather thread... broke a few needles but all in all it was not that bad a job and the boat looks great.........

I just did the same thing with my 79 formula. Actually, I did it twice.

The first time I rebuilt the rear bench/ engine hatch out of CDX, coated it all with resin, wrapped it in marine vynil and the mouinted fold down fishing seats to create the rear bench. The problem was it was heavy to lift to get at the engines and the battery switches. So I rebuilt it recently.

This time I again started with CDX but coated it with several coats of Poly. Then I installed a hatch in the center of the bottom so that the hatch could be opened for quick visual inspection of the engines and getting at the battery switches. I wrapped the whole thing in a good padded marine vinyl. I then used premade marine cushions made for igloo coolers to create a more straditional bench seat. The cushions come in a bunch of sizes, are about 3" thick and made of closed cell foam. They are not very expensive and are very well made including nice piping. You can find them anywhere just search for cooler cusions. I mounted the cushions to the frame using marine velcro so they can be quickly put on and taken off for storage. The whole thing cost less than $200 including the stainless steel piano hinge which mounts the overall structure to that back.

Heres one for you. Call up a school that teaches apulstry, and you can get them to do it real cheap. Keep in mind that they will be doing it for teaching purposes and it may take them a while. I had my wal mart seats redone by wallace state here in alabama and all it costed me was the white leather. Becha didnt think of that didnt ya :D :D :p :p
